this is where the group gets together and forms rules
storming
hostility is shown as the group forms its hierarchy
norming
people begin to feel part of the team and accept their roles
perfroming
the group works well together and should be successful
group cohesion
relates to how members of a group work together and exhibit desire to reach common goals
task cohesion
how well the team works together, they do not necessarily get on outside the team, important for success
social cohesion
how much the member of the team like each other, not as important for success
productivity equation
ACTUAL PRODUCTIVITY= potential productivity - losses due to faulty processes
faulty processes
these can be brought about because of coordinational losses (ringlemann effect)
motivational losses (social loafing)
the ringlemann effect
as a group size increases their is more likely to be coordination problems
social loafing
this is when individuals don’t put in 100% effort when in a group or team. This is generally due to a loss of motivation
when does social loafing occur
people don’t feel their individual contributions are identified
some players feel they are working harder than others
players with low self confidence may hide away to protect their self- esteem
players who have had a previous negative experience
