What are the rules for confronting a group member?
- Do not beat up a member verbally or emotionally
- Be willing to do what you’re asking them to do
- Be tactful
- Use behavioral language instead of global judgments
- Know why you’re confronting

What is transference?
When the client transfers feelings for another person on to the therapist
What is counter-transference?
When the therapist transfers feelings onto the client
Difference between a working group and non-working group
- Good feedback
- Members are hopeful
- Confrontation is done as a reaction to a behavior and to challenge to examine behavior
- Members feel good about themselves
- Clear communication / direct
- Awareness of the group process
- Cultural differences do not cause discord
Group members use out of group time to work on problems raised in the group
What are therapeutic factors that operate in a group?

- Want people to practice changes they’ve made
- Evaluate group experience

Why would you use a contract and homework?
- People practice what they’ve learned to get better at it
* Contracts have been found to be helpful

- Are there people you’re concerned about
- How you both worked together
- What issues need to be addressed
- Do they want to do the group again
What are legal specific issues with children?
- Know confidentiality limits
- Know when you need parental permission
- Know legal responsibility to report abuse
