Group 7 - The Halogens Flashcards
How many electrons in the outer shell of halogens
Halogens have 7 electrons in the outer shell
Does the reactivity of halogens increase or decrease going down the group
The reactivity of the halogens decrease going down because as the shells increase and the outer electron is further away from the nucleus there are less attractive force from the nucleus and then it’s harder to gain an electron
So melting and boiling points increase or decrease going down the group
The boiling and melting points increase going down
What charge ion do the halogens have
Halogens form -1 ions because they gain an electron to get a full outer shell and electrons have a negative charge and they gain 1 negative charge
