2
Q

Why do the elements in group 7 go down in reactivity as you go down the group and why do the melting and boiling point increase

A

As you go down the elements the outer shell gets further and further away from the positive nucleus the attractive force needed to pull the extra electron gets weaker

6
Q

Why do alkali metals increase in reactivity as u go down the group

A

As you go down atomic radius gets biggrr so outer shell gets further away from positive nucleus increased distance weakens the attraction between electrons and positive nucleus so the electron can be lost more easy increasing reactivity

Q

Why do elements in group 1 become 1+ion

A

1 electron in outer shell and needs to loose that one to become stable

Q

What happenes when group 1 elements r are placed in water

A

Lithium- .floats in water .effeevesces .hydrogen gas is produced . Dissapears

Sodium- .floats on surface. . Effervesces . .hydrogen gas is produced. .dissapears. .moltenball made which moves quickly on water surface. .sometimes hydrogen catches fire with yellow flame

Potassium
Molten ball moves quiclly
Hydrogen catxhes fire to produce lilac flame

Q

Why does potassium onwards in group 1 produce a flame

A

Soo much energy is released from the exothermic reaction that it lights the hydrogen gas that also gets released from the reaction

Q

A small piece of potassium is added to waterwhat will u see

A

Burns
Small spark
Lilac flame
Lets off hydrogen gas

17
Q

How do u balance an equation

A

Check how many of that element is there on each side
Balance it by only adding more big numbers

18
Q

Explain how metals conduct electricity

A

The delocalised electrons move freely so they can conduct electricity

19
Q

Decribe metals in terms of their particles present in their structures

A

Posistive metal ions in a sea of delocalised electrons

20
Q

trends with the physical and chemical properties of group 1 metals

A

go down the group more reactive
as u go down the group the melting and boiling point decreases

21
Q

lithium+oxygen

A

LiO²
