Group 5 Flashcards
Transpiration within a plant
Transpiration is the loss of water from a plant in the form of water vapor. Water is absorbed by roots from the soil and transported as a liquid to the leaves via xylem. In the leaves, small pores allow water to escape as a vapor.
translocation within a plant
The movement of sucrose and other substances like amino acids around a plant.
Xylem
A tissue in vascular plants that carries water and dissolved minerals from the roots and provides support for softer tissues
Phloem
the vascular tissue in plants which conducts sugars and other metabolic products downwards from the leaves.
