What is Mission Command?
The exercise of authority and direction by the commander to enable disciplined initiative within the commander’s intent to conduct unified land operations.
What are the principles that guide the Mission Command philosophy ?
Build Cohesive teams. Create shared understanding. Provide clear commander’s intent. Exercise disciplined initiative. Use mission orders. Accept prudent risk.
What is prudent risk?
Prudent risk is a deliberate exposure to potential injury or loss when the commander deems that the outcome of mission accomplishment is worth the cost.
What are mission orders?
They are directives that emphasize to subordinates the results to be attained, now how they are to achieve those results.
What is the mission command system?
It is the collection of elements such as personnel, networks, facilities, equipment and processes and procedures that allow commanders to conduct operations.
What does it mean to exercise disciplined initiative?
It is action in the absence of orders when the existing orders no longer fit that situation or when unforeseen opportunities or threats arise.
