What are the types of verbal miscommunication?

A

• Spoken - misunderstanding on the topic of conversation due to poor listening. Often when we are distracted or multitasking, we tend to interpret the message as something else.

• Written - in text or in focus we tend to simplify our words, to a point that sometimes it could mean something entirely different.

What are the types of non-verbal communication

A

• Body Language - misinterpreted of gestures, posture, and facial expressions can lead to misunderstandings. For example, someone might cross their arms, which could be perceived as defensive when they’re actually just feeling cold.

• Facial Expressions - Different states of mind can interpret expressions different. A smile can differ depending if the person was is a good or bad mood.

• Tone of Voice - One’s tone, pitch, and volume of voice can alter the intended message. Emphasising on different words can also affect the interpreter’s understanding.

• Verbal Miscommunication - occurs when spoken words and language fail to effectively convey a message, leading to misunderstandings or misinterpretations between individuals.

• Non-verbal Miscommunication - occurs when messages are conveyed or interpreted through non-verbal cues such as body language, facial expressions, gestures, and tone of voice, leading to misunderstandings or misinterpretations.
