When a behaviour dominates an individuals life
Explain physical and psychological dependence
Becomes impossible to live life without substance or behaviour
Explanation tolerance
Occurs when a dose need to be increase to get the initial hit/buzz
Explain withdrawal
The effect when someone stood the addictive behaviour. . Physiological – headaches, nausea, insomnia, loss of appetite. Psychological – irritability, mood swings low mood
Explain relapse
Repeatedly reverting back to the addictive behaviour after giving up
Explain conflict
Conflict - Interpersonal conflict between individual and those around them. Addict often choses short-term pleasure, ignoring consequences. Intrapersonal occurs when the conflict is within the individual. Experiences loss of control vs. wanting to stop behaviour
Explain mood alterations
Mood alteration - Moods are subjective to activity of addiction i.e. highs and lows
