A
  1. Students stand in a circle around the perimeter of the classroom
  2. First person says “My name is ____ and I can ____ .” (e.g. My name is Bill and I can juggle.)
  3. Everyone repeat “His/Her name is ____ and he/she can ____.”
  4. Continue around the circle until everyone has gone

  1. Students stand in a circle around the perimeter of the classroom
  2. First student will say their name
  3. Entire class will respond with “Hello ____, the weekend is near what will you do when it is here?”
  4. Student will respond with their weekend plans then the next student will go

Mingle Mingle

A
  1. Have the class stand up, and move to somewhere else in the room (preferably not by people they normally sit by)
  2. Give them 2-3 minutes to introduce themselves to one another
  3. Each student shake hands and say their own name then repeat the other persons (e.g. Student 1. “Hi. I’m Steve.” Student 2. “Hi Steve. I’m Pam.” Student 1. “Nice to meet you Pam.”
  4. Have students try to greet as many people as possible

Good Morning Rap

A
  1. Students stand in a circle around the perimeter of the classroom
  2. Student says while walking forward “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, my name is ____ and I say Hi.”
  3. Walking backward the student says “6, 7, 8, 9, 10, back it up and meet my friend.”
  4. Then the next student will do the same

Dance Move Greeting

A
  1. Students stand in a circle around the perimeter of the classroom
  2. Teacher holds up a name card
  3. That students steps forward and says “Hello my friends how do you do? My name is ____ watch what I do.”
  4. Student makes some sort of motion (dance move, goofy move)
  5. Class responds “Hello ____ we’ll do it too.”
  6. Then the teacher will hold up a different name and repeat

Bumpity Bump Bump Bump

A
  1. Students will break into 2 or 3 small groups
  2. Standing in a circle, one person will start in the middle
  3. That person points to someone in the group and has to say the person in the middles name
  4. If the person in the middle says “bumpity bump bump bump” before the person they point at can say their name, they trade spots

Toss and Talk Ball

A
  1. Students stand in a circle around the perimeter of the classroom
  2. Teacher will pass out the Toss and Talk ball to a student
  3. The ball is covered in questions such as their favorite sports team, biggest pet peeve, etc.
  4. The student will introduce themselves then answer the question that is closest to their right thumb
  5. Once they answer the question, that student will pass the ball to someone else until everyone has gone

Spider Web

A
  1. Holding a ball of yarn, a student greets someone across the circle and gently rolls the ball to that person while firmly holding on to the end of the yarn.
  2. The student who receives the ball of yarn greets another student across the circle and rolls the ball to that student, making sure to hold onto the unraveling strand with one hand.
  3. This continues until everyone has been greeted and the yarn has created a web across the circle.
  4. To unravel the web, students greet each other in reverse order until the ball of yarn is wound up again.

Flighty Flight

A
  1. Give the first greeter a paper airplane. He/She chooses someone in the circle across from him/her and greets him with a friendly “Good morning, ______!” and then gently tosses the airplane so that it lands in front of him.
  2. The student being greeted waits until the airplane lands and then retrieves it. He/She returns the greeting: “Good morning, ______!” and chooses someone else to greet.
  3. Repeat until everyone has been greeted.

  1. Call out a direction from each category on the chart. For example, “Tiptoe, handshake, favorite book.”
  2. Students tiptoe around the room to find a partner and greet them with a handshake. Partners then tell each other their favorite book.
  3. Ring a bell to signal a new round. Call out three new directions. Students move, greet, and share in those designated ways.
  4. Continue for three or four rounds.

Crazy Walk

A
  1. Students stand in a circle
  2. First student does any sort of crazy walk (or not) that they want to another student
  3. They will greet that student in their own way (fist bump, hand shake, high five)
  4. They will take that students spot in the circle and the student they greeted will go next until everyone has gone
  5. Students that have gone cross their arms across their chest

  2. Students will choose a funny voice to talk in
  3. First students says “Hi. My name is ____.” in their funny voice that they choose
  4. The entire class copies the voice and says “Hello ____.”
  5. Students may repeat the voices that they come across
  6. e.g. High pitch, Nasal, Slow motion, Southern drawl, Monotone, Opera, Giggly middle schooler, Gangster, Foghorn, British, Australian, Sing song, Baritone, Hoarse, Whisper, Wheezy, Cowboy, Up Nort, Mad mom, Valley girl, Robot, and anything you can think of

A
  1. Students stand in a circle around the room
  2. Each student will introduce themselves saying “Good afternoon/ morning. I’m ____”
  3. Then they will share one little known fact about themselves
  4. The rest of the class will say “Good afternoon ____”
