Logeion Proskenion
Stage in front of skene; where main actors would perform.
Mechané
A large crane used to lower props or people representing a god. A.K.A. “Deux ex Machina” considered a trite; the god resolved the problems at the end of the play.
Deux ex Machina
literally means “god from the machine”
Odeion
small, roofed , Ancient Greek theatre for musical performances or recitations.
Orchersttra
Circular area in front of Proskenion where chorus and musicians would perform
Parados
Entrance for chorus between theatron and and Skene
Paraskenion
Wing on either side of the stage that stores props and serves as a place for actors to get prepared on ancient Greek or Roman theatre.
Periaktoi
3 sided scenic piece in Greek theatre, where each side represents a different location.
Skene
Building behind the playing area then became the background of the drama. Originally it was a hut for changing costumes and mask.
Theatron
Seating area for audience in a Greek, Roman or Byzantine theatre. Also where the origin of word “theatre” came from.
