Q

why did the fire spread so quickly?

A

because there was high winds that night do would fuel the fire as fire needs oxygen to spread.
the houses were so close that you could literally shake hands with your neighbour across the street from your bedroom window so the fire would jump to the next house.
the roofs were made from wood and wood is a flammable material so would catch on fire really quickly
there was wholes in the walls of poor people’s houses because they couldn’t afford to fix it. so the wood in the walls were exposed.

Q

why didn’t the mayor during the great fire of London knock some of the houses down so the fire wouldn’t spread so quickly?

A

because a lot of people who lived in those houses were rich people who supported him very well financially so he didn’t want to lose their loyalty.

Q

what should’ve been done to avoid the Great fire of London?

A

The residents should’ve gotten the women and children out of London and the men group together and try and stop the fire. If they would’ve done that then they would’ve probably stopped the fire faster than they originally did. Also, the houses should’ve been built further away from each other to make it harder for the fire to spread to the houses. As well as this, the roofs and walls should’ve been made from more sustainable materials that won’t catch alight like bricks for the walls and tiling for the roofs.
