Gravtational Fields Part 1 Flashcards
Define field in physics (3)
-field is a region of space
-in which an object can exert a force on a separate object
-because of a certain property they both possess
State an example of a vector field (3)
-example: Mass
-if an object possess mass then there is a gravitational field around it
-and there will be a gravitational force exerted on another massive object placed in the field
Define scalar field (2)
-the presence of a physical quantity
-at each point in a space
Define uniform field (2)
-a uniform field is a field where the field lines all point in approximately the same direction
Provide an example of field lines (2)
-earth
-gravitational field around earth is approximately uniform near to the surface of the planet
Define radial fields (2)
-are fields where all the field lines
-or lines of force point towards the centre of a circle or sphere
