graphs / tables Flashcards
one way contingency table
for data with a single categorical variable and are shown as a one dimensional table of columns
two way contingency table
are for data with 2 categorical variables and are shwon as 2 dimensional tables of rows and colums
marginal distributions
are the row and column sums of a 2 way contingency table –> shown as frequecnies or proportions
conditional distributions
are 2 way tables that show the proportions of sampling units for one variable within each level of the second variable
grouping varibles (bar graph)
for datasets with 2 categorical variables. The grouping variable is shown along the base of the figure, and levels of the second variable are shown as side-by-side bars within each level of the grouping variable
grouped bar graph
visualzing datasets with 2 categorical variable. the grouping variable is shown along the base of the figure, and levels of the second variable are shown as side-by-side bars within each level of the grouping variable
stacked bar graph
visualizing datasets with 2 categorical variables. The grouping variabe is shown along the base of the figure. The second variable is displayed as a single stacked bar graph within each level of the grouping variable with each level of the second variable distinguished by colour
scatter plot
type of figure used to visualize data eith two numerical variables when there are no repeated measuremnets on sampling units
box plots
type of figures used to visualize numerical data
extreme threshold
temporary reference line used to draw the wiskers and extreme values. The thresholds drawn at 15. X the interquartile range above the top of the box and below the bottom of the both
