Graphs Flashcards
What is a graph?
A graph is a visual representation of data and it gives a summary of information on certain data collected
What do graphs help scientists?
It helps them quickly observe patterns and relationships between variables.
What four things do you need when drawing a graph?
A title; x-axis; y-axis; scale
What is the x-axis?
Independent Variable
What is the y-axis?
Dependent Variable
What is an interval?
The amount of space between one number and the next
When / What is a bar graph?
It is used when the data is not continuous; it allows us to compare information collected by counting; each bar represents a quantity counted at a particular time
When / What is a line graph?
It is used for continuous data; it shows the relationship between the independent and dependent variables; useful for showing trends over time
When / What is a pie chart or circle graph?
It is used to show how a fixed quantity is broken into parts; the complete circular pie represents 100%; each slice represents the smaller portion; need to use a protractor to create this type of graph
What equation is used to find the angle on a graph?
Angle on graph = percentage x 360
