Q

What does ‘scale’ mean in graphing?

A

Scale is how much each box on a graph represents. There’s a scale for each axis (horizontal and vertical).

Q

How can you determine scale?

A

Look at the information in your t-chart or table. For each axis, look at how far up your data goes. If your data goes up to 78, maybe your axis should go to 100. Divide the data by the number of boxes you have to figure out scale. Round to a clean number, e.g. if you have 22 boxes, 100/22=4.54. So you could do 100/20= 5 and make each box 5 instead of 4.5. 5 is an easier number to work with which is why it’s better!

Q

If you are graphing from a formula, what should you do first?

A

Make a t-chart, where you substitute values in for x to see what y equals. You should make at least 3 points. You will use the t-chart to graph points on the graph.
