Grammar?
The whole system and structure of a language or of languages in general
Morphology?
The study of words and their parts/ structure
Morpheme?
The smallest meaningful constituent of a linguistic expression
Free Morpheme?
A morpheme (or word element) that can stand alone as a word
Bound Morpheme?
A morpheme that can appear only as part of a larger expression
Affix?
A morpheme that is attached to a word stem to form a new word or word form
Prefix?
An affix that is joined before a root or stem
Suffix?
An affix which is placed after the stem of a word
Inflectional Morpheme?
A suffix that’s added to a word to assign a particular grammatical property to that word
Derivational Morpheme?
Signal a change in a base word’s number, gender, person, or tense
Noun Phrase?
A group of words that functions as a noun in a sentence
Verb Phrase?
Consists of a verb, or of a main verb following a modal or one or more auxiliaries
Adverbial Phrase?
A group of words that acts as an adverb to modify the main clause of a sentence
Prepositional Phrase?
A group of words that begins with a preposition and ends with a noun, pronoun, or noun phrase
Fronted Adverbial Phrase?
The words or phrases at the beginning of the sentence to describe the action that follows
