emotion and stands on its own. usually followed by exclamation mark
What is the subject?
noun or pronoun that shows what the sentence is about
What is the predicate?
verb telling what is happening to the subject.
Independent clause
has a subject and a predicate which expresses a complete thought. can stand on its own
Dependent clause
has a noun and a verb but does not express a complete thought. can not stand on its own. begins with a WASUBI TEET word

What are phrases?
group of words that stand together as a single unit as a part of a sentence. does not contain a subject and a verb.
Noun phrases
includes a noun and a modifier.
before a noun in the form of possessive pronouns, adjectives, or participles.
after a noun in the form of prepositions, adjectives, or participles
Verb phrases
a verb that modifies the verb (not an adverb)
the phrase is the main verb and modifier together
Gerund phrases
a VERB that acts as a NOUN. -ING
Infinitive phrase
to + verb
Appositive phrases
A NOUN that renames another NOUN
Participle phrases
A VERB that describes a NOUN. turns it into an adjective. -ING
Prepositional phrases
begins with a preposition, ends with a noun, pronoun, or noun phrase. Cat and the box.
Absolute phrases
modifies ENTIRE SENTENCE rather than a word. an absolute phrase combines a noun and a participle with any modifiers or objects.
