Morpheme
A component of a word that cannot be further divided (eg ing/ ed)
Free morpheme
A morpheme that can stand on its own as a word
Affix (bound morpheme)
A morpheme that cannot stand on its own as a word but can combine with others to make a new word
Phrase
Words centered around head word
Head word
Word within a phrase that provides central meaning
Modification
Adding additional words to provide more detail to a head word in a phrase
Clause
Group of words centered around a verb
Main clause
Grammatically complete alone
Subordinate clause

Active voice
A clause where the doer of an action is the subject
Passive voice
A clause where what is affected by the action is in the subject position, the doer either following or left out
