Q

Why gramm staining is important? (link to treating the patients)

A

Gram staining is important to test the bacteria on it’s type to prescribe the effective antibiotic treatment that will be able to kill the bacteria. For example, penicillin cannot cannot be used to kill the gram negative bacteria because peptidyclogan layer is protected by the lipopolysacharides whereas in gram negative the cell wall is thinner so it can break it and kill the bacteria.

Q

Compare gram positive and gram negative bacteria?

A

In gram positive the cell wall is made up of thick layer of peptidoglycan and no outer lipopolesachhrides. Whereas gram negative wall made up of thin layer of peptidoglycna and outer lipopolysacharrides membrane.
