Grade 9 Review Flashcards
What is an isotope?
Same # of p and e, diff # of n
Do isotopes result in the same chemical reactions?
Do they have the same physical properties?
YES- identical chemical reactions
NO- Different physical properties, ex heavy water used for nuclear reactions
What is a row on the periodic table called?
Period
What is a column on the periodic table?
Group
Are all metals solid at room temperature?
No, Br and Hg are liquids
Group 1: name? reactivity? react w/ water? malleability? Colour? Which group will it react with?
Alkali metals, Very reactive, yes, soft metals, silvery, group 7
Group 2: name? Where is it found? Bonded to what most often?
Alkaline earth metals, earth, oxygen
Group 7: name? React with what group? Form what kind of compound? What state at room temp? Colours? What will they bond to?
Halogens, group 1, salt compounds, F&Cl= gasses, Br=Liquid, I=solid, F=yellowish, Cl=green, Br=brown, I=purple, bond to themselves(diatomic molecules)
Group 8: name? Reactivity? Some uses?
Noble gasses, inert- no reaction(full valence level), He= lifting gas, Ar= welding
