A

A

As in fourth position but the working foot is taken to the rear, and is placed on the ball or flat.

A

The working leg is extended to the front, midway between fourth and fourth intermediate and is placed on the toe.

Outward brush

A
  • Half point of the working foot lightly touches the ground in its progress from third aerial very low through third to an open aerial position.
  • From a rear position, through first to fourth aerial or 4th intermediate aerial.
  • When executed in conjunction with a spring or hop, the working foot touches the ground almost simultaneously on landing.

A

The 1/2 point of the working foot lightly touches the ground in its progress from an open aerial position to an accepted position.

Shuffle

A
  • Starting with one foot in mid 4th aerial low, spring or hop, during the elevation, extend the original supporting foot to mid 4th aerial low. Then, almost simultaneously on landing, brush the new working foot inwards on the 1/2 point in 3rd or 5th and immediately brush it out to mid 4th aerial.
  • Counting:
    ST- 1& 2& 3& 4&
    Other- 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &
  • No travel, where specified a slight backward travel is used.
  • The position once you brush in the working foot is called “over the buckle”.

Hop brush beat beat

A
  • Hop, extending working foot to 4th intermediate aerial (if not already so placed), quickly execute and inward brush to third aerial low (count 1 & [&]), place the working foot on the 1/2 point in 3rd or 5th then lightly beat rear foot in 3rd or 5th rear (count a 2)
  • Simultaneously on beating the rear foot, working foot can be extended to 4th intermediate aerial or 2nd aerial, depending on what’s going to follow.
  • Brush movements may be executed directly to 3rd aerial low, or may pass through 3rd or 5th.

Raising and lowering of the arms

A
  • Minimal displacement of the elbows.
  • No part of the arm or hands should go in front of the dancer’s face.
  • Exceptions:
    4th bar of intro to ST
    1st and 2nd step of ST

Placing of the working foot on the ball

A
  • Pads of the toes and the ball in contact with ground, with instep arched.
  • Knee of working leg kept as straight as possible, without strain to allow for freedom of movement.
  • Weight is transferred onto it, when the dancer travels a step is taken.

A

Bar 1 & 2: Stand as for bow
Bar 3: 4 count bow
Bar 4: Taking arms to 1st if not already so placed, step LF towards 2nd, making 1/8 of a turn to the right step RF to 4th rear flat, finishing with LF pointed to 4th (count 5, 6). Take arms through 5th then raise them up in front of the body to 4th (count 7), then carry arms out to 3rd and rise (count 8).
