Q

What is Sexual Reproduction?

Like how does it happen and what are the characteristics blablabla

A
  • Both result in at least one offspring
  • It uses 2 parents to create an offspring
  • Offspring features a combination of the parents genes
  • It is typically found in much more complex organisms
  • Takes a lot more time

Q

What are the disadvantages of Asexual Reproduction?

A
  • Accumulation of Mutations (Since offspring are basically clones of the parent, any mutations formed will never go away)
  • Inability to adapt
  • Overpopulation

7
Q

Describe Interphase

A

Interphase is by far the longest part of the cell cycle, and it essentially consists of the cell working normally, while growing and developing

Q

Describe Mitosis

A

Mitosis is the process of the cell splitting and replicating. It results in 2 genetically identical daughter cells, each with a full set of chromosomes.

Also cancer is uncontrolled Mitosis lol

Q

Describe Prophase

A

Before the splitting of the cell

Nucleus disappears
Chromosomes become individually identifiable
Centrioles move to the “poles” of the cell
Spindle begins to form

Q

Describe Anaphase

A

Spindle Fibres pull apart sister chromatids (the halves of the chromosomes)
Chromosomes move towards opposite ends of the cell

Q

Describe Meiosis

A

It produces gametes(sex cells) and it produces 4 genetically unique daughter cells, instead of 2 genetically identical ones. However, it is a Haploid cell, meaning it only has half a set of chromosomes. (The half set of chromosomes combines with the other half set of chromosomes in the sperm and egg cell)
