Bright red blood underneath the conjunctiva and in front of the sclera covering the white of the eye.
Painless and vision not affected

Subconjunctival haemorrhage

Give 4 conditions that can predispose someone to a subconjunctival haemorrhage folowwing and episode of strenuous activity
A
- HTN
- Bleeding disorder
- Whooping cough
- Medications (warfarin, NOACs, antiplatelets)

what symptoms would suggests bacterial conjunctivitis ?
A
- Purulent discharge
- Inflamed conjunctiva
- Worse in the morning, eyes stuck together
- Usually starts in one eye before spreading to the other

what symptoms suggest viral conjunctivitis
A
- Clear discharge
- Symptoms of a viral infection (cough, sore throat, blocked nose)

What symptoms would suggest allergic conjunctivitis
A
- Swelling of conjunctival sac and eyelid
- Watery discharge
- Itch !

Q
How is conjunctivits managed
A
- Usually self limiting
- Advice good hygiene to avoid spreading and to clean eyes with cooled boiled water and cotton wool
- Bacteria : can consider abx eye drops (e.g. chloramphenicol)
- Allergic : oral or topical antihistamines
