Economic policy opening

A

Scotland spend £1600 per person which is less than the uk average whilst they only £300 less tax revenue generated per person.opponents of independence argue that Scotland will most likely have to make huge spending cuts or tax rises. Scotland could benefit from the strength and stability of the uk economically. Independence bring uncertain economic risk

Economic policy their economic policies

A

Scotland could change economic policy to suit them and help their poverty problem. This has been proved useful by Scandinavian countries with successful economies. Scotland decide their own budget. Which has been cut. They could better fund schools or NHS.

Q

Self determination

A

If Scotland where to gain independence no bills could be blocked by uk govt for example when the uk govt used powers to block gender recognition reform bill. This shows that if Scotland where independent they would not be limited by the uk govt, could tackle inequality more effectively. Scotland could also try to rejoin eu with a poll showing 62% of Scot’s would want to rejoin, Spain could block, Catalonia and basque region want independence, not blocking shows support of independence. Making Scot’s not be in favour of independence if no eu. Overall self determination important Scotland in charge of Scotland future, represent Scottish views better than uk govt.

Q

Devo max

A

Explain devo max, devo max could be best of both worlds as could enjoy benefits of independence. For example Scotland could reform many policies such as the benefit system removing the two child limit and benefit cap. Therefore Scotland could tackle their poverty problem and in their own way. Devo max also devolves immigration, Scotland could have more open immigration policy to fix brain drain to fill the shortage of jobs and support Scotlands ageing population. Whereas the uk govt have cut immigration levels in recent years. Overall devo max good option, gives all powers back except defence and foreign policy which is what Scot’s want. However many Scot’s still think it’s necessary for Scotland to be part of the eu

Conclusion

A

In conclusion economic policy , self determination and devo max all good options for governance of Scotland. Self determination would be able to control our own powers and not have limited funding so can focus on inequalities in Scotland. Economic policy spend more on NHS, if independent tax would increase. Devo max best option best of both worlds as still in uk but are given all powers, will lead to independence
