India: Princely States collaboration during 1857 sepoy rebellion – restoration of former tax systems after taking over from EIC to avoid further rebellions, significant cut back on civilising mission (less cultural erasure), established ICS (1858) to maintain stability
Burma: After acquiring Burma as a territory in 1866, Britain continued to pay their tribute vassalage to avoid border disputes with China
