Giving up some personal freedoms so the government can protect you.

Sided with the British government during the Revolutionary War.

What is Rule of Law
Everyone must follow the laws no matter what office they hold and where they are at in life.
Due Process of the Law
What is Due Process?
Steps the Government takes before they are able to take away your natural rights.
Civic Virtue
What is Civic Virtue?
The action of doing the right thing in life and government.
Limited Gov
What is Limited Gov?
The Constitution tells the government what it can do, anything not stated they cannot do.(Constitution, Separation of Power, Checks & Balances, Federalism)

State of Nature
What is State of nature
Philosophy that paints a picture of humanity before society, laws, and government were created.
(Having no gov and everyone for themselves)
Popular Sovereignty/Majority Rules
The people telling the government what they want based on voting. The group of voters with a greater population wins.
Checks and Balances/ Separation of Powers
The government is separated into three branches (Legislative, Executive, and Judicial), each of the branches has powers to keep the other branches in line ensuring no one branch holds too much power.
Federalism
The ORGANIZATION of government that the United States has. It is split between Federal, State, and local governments.
Natural Rights
LIFE, LIBERTY, and PROPERTY. People have certain rights that they are born with, no government can take them away without due process.
Republic
The SYSTEM of the government that the United States has. Voters elect representatives INSTEAD of direct rule from the people.
