Citizens give up some rights to the GOV for protection and stability

The colonists that sided with the British during the Revolution

All members and institutions are held to the same laws in a society(Everyone has to follow the rules)
Patriots
The Americans fighting against British rule in the 13 Colonies

GOV must follow procedures before they can deprive a person of their natural rights( They must have evidence/reason for they can take a person’s rights)

Civic Duty, Civic Responsibility, Civic Virtue
Limited GOV
A system where GOV powers are limited to the power given to them by the constitution
State of Natural
When there is a lack of GOV body in a population(Everyone is on their own)
Popular Sovereignty
GOV based on consent of the people
Majority Rules
Whatever gets more votes wins
Checks & Balances
System of rule and procedures that stop one person/institution from having too much power
Separation of Power
Creates the 3 branches of GOV, which are Legislative, Executive, Judicial
Federalism
System where GOV is controlled on multiple levels like Federal, State, Local
Natural Rights
Unalienable rights including (life, liberty, property)
Republic
System where people choose representatives to represent them in GOV
