Diagnosis of Gout
Clinically
raised Serum Urate Level
Aspirated Joint fluid: monosodium urate crystals needle shaped and negatively birefringent of polarised light
Xray signs for Gout?
Maintained joint space (no loss of joint space)
Lytic lesions in bone
Punched out erosions
Erosions can have sclerotic borders with overhanging edges
Management of Gout?
NSAIDS eg Naproxen with PPI
Colchcine 2nd Line
Pred 3rd Ljine
Gout Prophylaxis?
Xanthine Oxidase Inhibitors eg Allopurinol or Febuxostat
