colonnette
small slender column or pillar often used for decorative purposes rather than structural support; gothic architecture often featured ribbed vaults and pointed arches, and colonnettes were used to support the elements; commonly were commonly used in tracery, which is the ornamental stone framework that holds the glass in place.
flying buttress
