What is Gord?
A
Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease is where acid from stomach refluxes through lower oesophageal sphincter and irritates lining of oesophagus.

What are the risk factors of GORD ?
A
Hiatus hernia, obesity, smoking, trigger foods e.g. coffee and alcohol, medication (Decreases lower oesophageal sphincter e.g anticholinergics used for urinary incontinence, CCB

What is the presentation of GORD?
A
Dyspepsia (indigestion)
Heartburn
Acid regurgitation
Epigastric pain

Investigation for GORD?
A
-endoscopy of upper GI

Initial Mx for GORD?
A
- Advice on reduce coffee, weight loss, stop medication
- PPI reduce gastric acid secretion e.g. lansoprazole
- Antacids buffering stomach acids e.g. Gavison Advance

Red flags for referral?
A
2ww referral if suspicious of GI cancer, for endoscopy
- Dysphagia (trouble swallowing)
- Weight loss
- Treatment resistant dyspepsia
- Over 55
