A

Job was tested by God but did not lose faith during period of suffering
God gave into devils temptation

Original sin?

A

Idea that Adam and Eve became sinners when they disobeyed God by eating the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. This sin has been passed on to all their descendants.

A

A fallen angel that C’s believe tried to tempt people on Earth. He doesn’t live in hell+isn’t as powerful as God. In the story of ‘The Fall’ he appeared as a serpent to Adam and Eve.

The idea that people are saved from sin and death through the death and resurrection of Jesus

Christians beliefs about good and evil?

A

God is source of all goodness, humans created in his image+have responsib-ility to live in way that’s pleasing to him. Moral code given by god in bible is what C’s follow to live good life. Evil is not seen as result of not following God, evil is often seen in character of devil.

A

Upbringing- believe that evil happens b’cos it’s in the mind. The way a person has been brought up or what’s happened to them can affect the way they act.

A

The devil- believe that evil in world’s caused by devil who causing pain by influencing ppl 2 making bad choices. Devil was a good angel created by G but tried to become as powerful as G. Bible mentions uprising in heaven by Devil recruiting other angels to fight against G. G banished all bad angels from heaven. Devil often represented as force of evil in bible eg tempts A+E. C’s think G will destroy devil in hell but atm he serves purpose as a testing angel. Some question why G would create D in 1st place.

A

C’s would be expected to behave in righteous manner die to 10 commandments in the Bible eg thou shall not steal.

A

Jesus’ teachings are also v important; J said greatest commandments are to love God and love thy neigh. 4 C’s this means they should try to help others+ having a loving+caring attitude

Parables in the Bible are stories that have a hidden meaning. The parable of the Good Samaritan teaches people that they should care for everyone, even enemies

A

It’s a concept that can challenge belief in G. If G is omni../benevolent, why does he allow suffering to exist when he has power to stop it?

A

A’s would claim that this challenges the qualities that the God is supposed to have and ultimately suffers that he does not exist.

Theists solutions to why an all powerful God would allow evil and suffering?

  • Pain and suffering is a test of faith in G, will eventually be rewarded (JOB)
  • has to be evil so we no what goodness is
  • evil/suffering is a result of freewill
  • G doesn’t cause suffering, D does
  • J suffered on Earth-> it’s a part of life that no one in immune from while on Earth

A

This is suffering in the world caused by nature eg floods, earthquakes
