Good and Evil
Good things are approved of and can be called ‘moral’ or ‘acceptable’. Bad things are disapproved of and can be considered ‘immoral’ or unacceptable.
Forgiveness
To let go of the suffering someone has caused you and move on.
Free Will
The ability to make free choices in life.
Justice
When people get equal rights and opportunities.
Morality
A system of values, telling us what is right and wrong.
Punishment
Making someone suffer pain or a loss for a wrongdoing.
Sin
An immoral act that goes against one of God’s laws.
Suffering
Experiencing pain, distress or hardship.
Absolute Morality
Actions are always right or wrong, regardless or circumstances, culture, religious tradition, time or age.
Relative Morality
What is considered moral will vary from situation to situation.
Utilitarianism
make decisions based on the greatest good for the greatest number
Temperance
not drinking alcohol
Charity
volunteering time and effort
Diligence
careful and persistent effort
Patience
acceptance or tolerance of problems
Kindness
compassion towards others
humility
modest view of your own importance
crime
any offence that is punishable by law
protection
to protect society from becoming victims of crime
reparation
repairing the damage done through crime
vindication
punishment that shows that the law and government deserve respect and should be followed
retribution
revenge or ‘getting even’ with the person who has committed the crime
deterrence
to deter or put people off doing crime
reformation
rehabilitating or reforming offenders so that they can understand why their action was an offence
restorative justice
a system of justice that enables criminals to make amends for their behaviour by meeting their victim and apologising
chaplain
a minister, such as a priest, pastor or community member of a religious tradition
