- When clients are assisted in preparing for their anticipated growth and development in the physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and spiritual dimensions.
- Ex. Pre-adolescent are being helped to understand growth spurt and the moodiness she/he may experience.

DEVELOPMENTAL GOALS

- Guidance is always preventive.
- Helped to avoid experiencing undesired outcomes and where precious time and energy can be saved if the person is made aware of his characteristics that may work against success in the field or goal in order to be spared from loss of self-esteem and embarrassment.
- Usually in a group setting
- Ex. Seminars for early pregnancy, sex education, mental health awareness, etc.

PREVENTIVE GOALS

- When clients encounters needs to be helped to identify, recognize, and enhance unused and underused talents, skills, and abilities.
- Ex. Helping individuals recognize their strengths.
- Like the different clubs in high school (music, arts, and writing)

ENHANCEMENT GOALS

- When clients do not believe they have an existing problem but can benefit from examining options, testing skills, and trying new and different activities, environments, relationships, etc.
- Can be helped to explore other pathways.
For instance, if a client overindulges in a computer or gadget, the counselor helps them find new ways to spend their time. - commonly used for teens and adults

EXPLORATORY GOALS

- Clients are assisted to overcome or solve an already-existing concern
- Like a failing student who is being physically abused by the boyfriend can be assisted by helping find ways to handle the abusive boyfriend and her own future.
- post counseling (paverify)

REMEDIAL GOALS

- Clients already taking action for resolving their concern or already have a planned course of action when they come to counseling
- Follow-up.
- The goal is to help them recognize that what they are doing, thinking, and feeling may be okay or may need some fine-tuning.
- To give feedback needed in the light of what they wish to accomplish.
