The RRD should only be used when the officer can safely approach the intended individual within the range (i.e., \_\_\_\_\_\_\_ to \_\_\_\_\_\_\_ feet) intended for the proper operation of the device. Officers shall consider their surroundings and additional persons near the intended individual prior to deploying the RRD.

Officers shall not:
a. Display a RRD in an unprofessional or unsafe manner.
b. Deploy a RRD from a moving vehicle or at the operator of a vehicle or its occupants.
c. Deploy a RRD from horseback.
If an unintentional deployment occurs in a non-field situation and the supervisor determines the
incident was an unintentional deployment and there is no injury or damage to property, then the
_______shall forward correspondence to the officer’s division commander outlining the
circumstances of the unintentional deployment.

The officer shall include the following in the incident or supplemental report.
a. The reason for deploying the RRD.
b. The number of RRDs utilized.
c. The serial number of the RRD and the serial number of the cartridges used.
d. A description of the location on the suspect’s body where the RRD made contact.
e. The name and affiliation of the person who removed the RRD
The supervisor responding to the scene of a RRD incident shall first check to see if anyone is
injured. The _________ shall be contacted if the RRD was deployed around the
suspect’s sensitive area, the suspect has sustained secondary injuries, or if otherwise needed.
If the incident involves serious bodily injury or death, the scene supervisor shall contact the

The scene supervisor shall conduct an inquiry of the RRD incident and gather sufficient
information to perform the following tasks.
The supervisor shall:
a. Ensure each officer involved completed a required incident or supplement report before going
off duty and that the report contains sufficient details justifying the RRD deployment.
b. Ensure data from body worn cameras involving RRD deployments are downloaded before
going off duty.
c. If the incident requires Response to Resistance (R2R) reporting, then the supervisor shall
include the following information in the supplement:
1. Name and employee number of the officer(s) discharging a RRD.
2. Serial number of the RRD and the serial number of the cartridges used.
3. Description of location where the deployment of the RRD made contact.
4. Name and affiliation of the person who removed the RRD.
5. Medical condition of the suspect and where and by whom the suspect was transported, if
applicable.
6. Officer, witness, suspect, or repartee statements that are not already included in the
incident or supplement reports.
7. A brief statement reiterating the officer’s justification to deploy the RRD.
8. A brief statement that the supervisor reviewed the incident report and it contains all of the
required facts in accordance with this General Order.
