Q

peter singer animals

A

Animals can be considered ‘persons’.
This is not the same as saying they are people.
Philosopher Peter Singer said animals qualify as persons because they can feel pain, they have social relationships, they have emotional lives etc..
So this means they deserve rights.

Q

Regans position and it’s link to kantian ethics

A

Regans position is kantian although Kant himself did not apply it to animals namely that all subjects of a life possess inherent value and must be treated as an end in themselves not as a mean to an end . He also argues rear while being the subject of a life is a sufficient condition for having intrinsic value it’s not a necessary one an individual may not be a subject of a life and still possess intrinsic value
