Animal situation ethics Flashcards
Fletchers Genaro approach to animals
Fletchers asks us to make agapeic calculations .Thus means to ask what end do we seek what motive is behind our act and what the foreseeable consequences are
The use of animals as food seems to be habit as old as humanity itself
Hunting for food went on for thousands of years before the development of agriculture
Some may argue that the human digestive system is to meet so it would seem natural for humans to use animals as food . Two things have affected thus view intensively farming animals and the mechanisation of agriculture which has led to a huge population increase
What’s the current data associated auto how animals as food contribute to the problem of human starvation
Current estimates that about 795 million are undernourished having insufficient food to lead a healthy life this is particularly true of less economically developed countries where 12 percent of the population is undernourished
Some who follow situation ethics may suggest that the most loving thing to do in these circumstances is to increase intensive farming and agricultural practices capacity to meet these need others may argue that the spectacle of starving children is worse then the practices of intensive farming
How does the meet industry contribute to human starvations
Cattle consume fifteen more grains then they produce as meat it could be seeing as a more loving thing to abandon intensive farming for more productive methods .
Factory farming should therefore be abandoned in favour of more production of crops .
