Glycosis And Krebs Cycle Flashcards
What is a hydride ion
A hydrogen with and extra electron.
Explain the glycolysis pathway
1.glycolysis is an anaerobic metabolic pathway with a low energy yield.
2.it’s reactant is glucose and products are 2 pyruvate and NADH
What are the factors that lead to glycolysis during exercise
1.substrate availability- increased glycogenolysis favours glycolysis
2.physiological factors-greater blood flow
3.cellular factors-increased glucose uptake by glucose transporters
4.molecular factors-pyruvate kinase and phosphofructokinase enzymes involved with glycosis
What is the Krebs cycle
1.It is a cycle that is an aerobic metabolic pathway with a low energy yield taking place in the mitochondrial matrix
2.reactant is ACETYL COA product is ATP NADH FADH
Cytosol to mitochondria: pyruvate oxidation
1.shuttling of pyruvate to the mitochondria can yield large amounts of atp
2.pyruvate can be oxidised to acetyl coA via pyruvate dehydrogenase
