Glycolysis Steps Flashcards
Step 1
glucose is phosphorylated by hexokinase to glucose-6-P
Step 2
Glucose-6-P is isomerized to fructose-6-P by phosphoglucoisomerase.
Step 3
Fructose-6-P is phosphorylated to fructose-1,6-BP by phosphofructokinase-1 (PFK-1)
THE RATE LIMITING STEP OF THE ENTIRE PATHWAY
Step 4
Fructose-1,6-BP is cleaved to glyceraldehyde-3-P and dihydroxyacetone-P by aldolase
Step 5
Dihydroxyactetone-P is isomerized to glyceraldehyde-3-P by triose phosphate isomerase
Step 6
G3P is oxidized and phosphorylated to form 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate by glyceraldehyde-3-P dehydrogenase
Step 7
1,3-bisphosphoglycerate is converted to 3-phosphoglycerate via substrate level phosphorylation by phosphoglycerate kinase
Step 8
phosphoglcyerate mutase causes a phosphoryl shift in 3-phosphoglycerate to form 2-phosphoglycerate
Step 9
2-phosphoglycerate is dehydrated by enolase to form phosphoenolpyruvate
Step 10
phosphoenolpyruvate is converted to pyruvate by pyruvate kinase
