Glycolysis Important Steps Flashcards
Why is step 1 important, what is it?
It is irreversible - glucose to G-6-P via hexokinase enzyme.
Why is step 3 important, what is it?
F-6-P to F-1,6-BisP
Catalysed by phosphofructokinase-1 (PFK-1)
Irreversible and first committed step and F-1,6-BisP ONLY used in glycolysis
Why is step 6 important, what is it?
G-3-P to 1,3-BisPG - makes 2NADH
Catalysed by phosphoglycerate kinase
Why is step 6 important, what is it?
G-3-P to 1,3-BisPG - makes 2NADH
Catalysed by glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase
Why is step 7 important, what is it?
1,3-BisPG to 3PG, 2ATP produced
Catalysed by phosphoglycerate kinase
Why is step 10 important, what is it?
PEP to pyruvate, 2ATP produced
Catalysed by pyruvate kinase
