Glycolysis Flashcards
What is the first stage of glycolysis? Glucose to the product and enzyme/resource used.
Glucose 6-Phosphate, enzyme used is Hexokinase, 1 ATP used and turns into ADP
What is the second stage of glycolysis? Glucose 6-phosphate to the product and enzyme/resource used.
Fructose 6-Phosphate, Phosphoglucose isomerase.
What is the third stage of glycolysis? Fructose 6-phosphate to the product and enzyme/resource used.
Fructose 1,6-bisphosphate, phosphofructokinase, 1 ATP to ADP
What is the fourth stage of glycolysis? Fructose 1,6-bisphosphate to the product and enzyme/resource used.
Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate, uses aldolase, dihydroxyacetone phosphate is also made.
What happens to dihydroxyacetone phosphate? What enzyme does this? What problem is linked to this enzyme?
It is converted into Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate by triose phosphate isomerase (TPI). TPI deficiency is the only glycolytic enzymopathy that is fatal.
What is the fifth stage of glycolysis? Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate to the product and enzyme/resource used.
1,3-bisphosphoglycerate, uses glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase, Pi and NAD+ converted to NADH
What is the sixth stage of glycolysis? 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate to the product and enzyme/resource used.
3-phosphoglycerate, uses phosphoglycerate kinase, ADP to ATP
What is the seventh stage of glycolysis? 3-phosphoglycerate to the product and enzyme/resource used.
2-phosphoglycerate, uses phosphoglcyerate mutase
What is the eight stage of glycolysis? 2-phosphoglycerate to the product and enzyme/resource used.
phosphoenolpyruvate, uses enolase, makes H2O
What is the ninth stage of glycolysis? Phosphoenolpyruvate to the product and enzyme/resource used.
2x Pyruvate, uses pyruvate kinase, ADP to ATP
What is the overall gain of resources and why?
2 ATP and 2 NADH, as stage 2 occurs twice as there are 2 glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate molecules
