Glycogenolysis Flashcards
1
Q
When does gluconeogensis take lace?
A
Exercise - lactate;
Short term fasting - alanine;
Diabetes - insulin sensitivity;
Trauma - peripheral insulin resistance;
2
Q
Glucose requirements
A
Brain and RBCs require glucose as fuel;
Daily glucose requirement = 160g;
Glycogen stores = 190g;
Glycogen stores have enough glucose to last a day;
3
Q
What is glycogenolysis
A
Synthesis of glucose from non carbohydrate precursors - lactate; amino acids (alanine) and glycerol (triacylglycerols)
4
Q
In which tissues does gluconeogenesis take place? And where in the cell?
A
Liver;
Kidney;
Small intestine;
Cytosol;
