Gluteus muscles Flashcards
Insertion of gluetus maximus?
Upper fibers: iliotibial tract
Lower fibers: gluteal tuberosity
Innervation of gluteus maximus?
Inferior gluteal n.
L5-S2
Action of gluteus maximus?
Entire muscle: extends and externally rotates hip in sagittal and coronal planes
Upper fibers: abduciton
Lower fiber: adduction
Origin of gluteus medius?
Ilium (gluteal surface below the iliac crest, between the anterior and posterior gluteal line)
Insertion of gluteus medius?
Greater trochanter of femur (lateral surface)
Innervation of gluteus medius and gluteus minimus?
Superior gluteal n.
L4-S1
Action of gluteus medius and gluteus minimus?
Entire muscle: abducts the hip, stabilizes pelvis in coronal plane
Anterior part: flexion and internal rotation
Posterior part: extension and external rotation
Origin of gluteus minimus?
Ilium (gluteal surface below origin of gluteus medius, between anterior and inferior gluteal lines)
Insertion of gluteus minimus?
Greater trochanter of the femur (anterolateral surface)
Origin of gluteus maximus?
Sacrum (dorsal surface, lateral part), ilium (gluteal surface, posterior part), thoracolumbar fascia, sacrotuberous ligament
