Gluteal Region POINAS Flashcards
Gluteus Maximus MA
- Hip Extension
- Assists in hip lateral rotation
- Fixes hip joint and assists in rising form sitting position
Gluteus Maximus PA
- Posterior gluteal line of ilium
- Dorsal sacrum and coccyx
- Sacrotuberous ligament
Gluteus Maximus DA
- Most fibers end in iliotibial tract, which attaches to Gerdy’s tubercle of tibia
- Some fibers insert on gluteal tuberosity
- “IT band” will also be accepted
Gluteus Maximus N
Inferior gluteal nerve L5, S1, S2
Gluteus Medius MA
- Abduct and medially rotate hip joint (anterior fibers)
- Posterior fibers externally rotate (clam)
- Keeps pelvis level during single leg stance
- Not letting your hip go laterally when standing or walking
Gluteus Medius PA
External surface of ilium between anterior and posterior gluteal lines
Gluteus Medius DA
Lateral surface of greater trochanter of femur
Gluteus Medius N
Superior gluteal nerve (L4,L5, S1)
Gluteus Minimus MA
- Abduct and medially rotate hip joint;
- Keep pelvis level when ipsilateral limb is weight bearing (single leg stance)
Gluteus Minimus PA
External surface of ilium between anterior and inferior gluteal lines
Gluteus Minimus DA
Anterior surface of greater trochanter of femur
Gluteus Minimus N
Superior gluteal nerve (L4, L5, S1)
Tensor Fasciae Latae MA
Medially rotate hip joint
- Abduct the hip joint
- Keep pelvis level when ipsilateral limb is weight bearing and advance opposite (unsupported) side during its swing phase
Tensor Fasciae Latae PA
Anterior superior iliac spine; anterior part of iliac crest
Tensor Fasciae Latae DA
Iliotibial tract, which attaches to anterolateral tibial tubercle
