ORIGIN: posterior 1/3 of iliac crest, Posterior Superior Iliac Spine; the lateral edge of the sacrum & coccyx; the sacrotuberous ligament.
Gluteus Maximus
Insertion
INSERTION:
Upper fibers: the posterior part of the iliotibial tract & the fasciae latae muscles
Lower fibers: the gluteal tuberosity of the proximal femur, Gerdys lateral tibial tubercle
Gluteus Maximus
Action & Innervation
ACTION: Extension of the femur; lateral rotatio & stabilization of the hip and knee joints; external rotation of the femur.
NERVE SUPPLY: Inferior gluteal nerve (L5-S2).
Gluteus Medius
Origin & Insertion
ORIGIN: between the anterior & posterior gluteal lines of the ilium
INSERTION: Lateral surface of the greater trochanter
Gluteus Medius
