Glucose metabolism Flashcards
What chain linkages does glycogen have?
1 to 4
1 to 6
Why is the name of the bond between two glucose molecules?
Glyosidic bond
Which has more branches
Glycogen or starch?
Glycogen
What is Glycogens structure?
How many glucose per chain?
How often does branching ooccur?
3D helical structure
12-14 glucose/chain
Branches occurs every 8-12 glucoses
How any glucose molecules make up one glycogen molecule?
120,000
What size are glycogens?
around 10-40 nm diameter
Granules= 20-40 molecules
Glycogen makes up how much of the liver and muscle mass?
Up to 10% of liver mass
1-2% of muscle
Where is glycogen storaged?
Free in the cytoplasm
Describe the first 2 steps of glycogenolysis
Glycogen + Pi cofactor-> G1P ( w/ glycogen phosphorylase)
G1P-> G6P ( phosphoglucomutase)
What is the general equation for phosphorolysis?
R-O-R’ + HOPO32- -> R-OH + R’-OPO3^2-
Why does glycogenolysis use phosphorolysis not glycolysis?
Phosphorolysis does not use ATP.
What are the 3 isozymes of phosphorylase?
Muscle mGP
Brain bGP
Liver lGP
