warnings gor GLP-1a/GIP
PANCREATITIS*, AKI, gallbladder disease
note: (risk factors: gallstones, alcoholism, increased TGs)
GLP-1a/GIP are NOT RECOMMENDED for patients who have what
SEVERE GI DISEASE* including gastroparesis* (drug indiced ileus has been reported)
note: Gastroparesis is a condition where the stomach muscles do not function properly, resulting in delayed emptying of food into the small intestine
side effects of GLP-1a/GIP
WEIGHT LOSS, NAUSEA, vomiting, diarrhea (reduced with dose titration), hypoglycemia, injection site rxns
Special admin considerations:
Q: Byetta directions
Q: Rybelsus directions
- Byetta, give dose WITHIN 60 MIN BEFORE MEALS*
- Rybelsus, take dose ≥ 30 min before first food/drink/medications of the day with 4 oz plain water
Pen needles are NOT provided with which pens, and why?
needles NOT provided with Victoza (liraglutide) and Byetta (exenatide) because they are administered DAILY**
note: ALL other pens are provided with needles bc they are given WEEKLY*
Q: which injection is given BID
Q: Not recommended when CrCl is < ?
