the repetition of a word of phrase at the beginning of a successive clauses
irony
the expressions of one’s meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposites, typically for humorous or emphatic effect
pathos
a quality that evokes pity or sadness
sympathy
understanding the feelings of characters within a text
empathy
identification with characters within a text
catharsis
the release of negative emotions at the end of a text (traditionally a tragedy), leaving you feeling purified
epiphany
a moment of sudden and great revelation or realisation
didacticism
a text that is intended to instruct, usually morally
bathos
an anti-climax after a building up of suspense. can be within a whole text or just a sentence
satire
the use of humour, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticise people’s stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues
parody
an imitation of the style of a particular writer, artist, or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comic effect
