group of disorders resulting from glomerular damage
can lead to proteinuria +/-haematuria
can lead to AKI or ESRF
what is the presentation of glomerulonephritis?
asymptomatic haematuria
nephrotic syndrome
nephritic syndrome
what are the causes of glomerulonephritis?
idiopathic
immune- SLE, goodpastures, vasculitis
infection- HBV, HCV, strep, HIV
drugs- penicillamine, gold
amyloid
what investigations are needed for glomerulonephritis?
blood
- FBC, UE, ESR
- complement C3 +C4
- antibodies- ANA, dsDNA, ANCA, GBM
- serum protein electrophoresis and immunoglobulins
- infection- ASOT, HBC + HCV serology
urine
- urine dipstick- proteinuria +/- haematuria
- spot PCR, MCS
- bence-jones protein
imaging
- CXR- infiltrates in wegeners, goodpastures
- renal US +/- biopsy
what is the general management of glomerulonephritis?
refer to renal
