Glomerular Filtration Rate Flashcards
1
Q
what is the end result of urine formation
A
filtered blood and excretion of waste
2
Q
describe filtration
A
filtration: from renal corpuscle to nephron tubules
3
Q
describe reabsorption
A
reabsorption: from filtrate in nephron to blood
4
Q
describe secretion
A
from blood to filtrate in nephron
5
Q
what are the three layers of filtration
A
before fluid in blood plasma can enter the nephron tubule network, it must pass through the three layers of filtration:
- capillary fenestrae: holes in the glomerular capillaries
- basement membrane of glomerular capillaries (rich in collagen)
- inner layer of bowman’s capsule, consisting of podocyted
6
Q
describe the inner layer of Bowmans capsule
A
inner layer of bownan’s capsule made of podocytes: podocyte processes and pedicels attached to glomerulus and aid in filtration (cell body floats)
