Glomerular Filter Rate Flashcards
1
Q
GFR defintion
A
volume filtered/min/kg
2
Q
explain glomerular filtrate
A
the filtrate that is secreted from the Glomerularus
the composition is similar to plasma but without any significant amount of proteins
contains things that need to be reabsorbed such as glucose and amino acids
composition
- water
- electrolytes - Na+, K+, Ca2+, Cl-, phosphates and bicarbonate
- low molecular weight substances
3
Q
Explain the three things that affects GFR
A
- Blood pressure/ hydrostatic pressure
- Oncotic pressure/colloid pressure (osmotic forces)
- Filtration coefficient (capillary wall permeability + S.A. effective filtration)
note- often total GFR is reduced due to the loss of the fx of many of nephrons, which others try to compensate
